The NNBDA was founded in the spring of 2005 to fill a niche that was vacant in the Northern Nevada region.  While a few well established bird dog clubs existing in the area at the time, most of the clubs were either breed specific or field trial oriented.

The founding members were looking for a club that was focused specifically on promoting hunting and training opportunities for individuals and their dogs who hunt the upland birds of the  Northern Nevada high desert.  This meant addressing the needs of both flushing and pointing dogs as well as a variety of versatile breeds.

The driving force behind the first few meetings was the tenacity of Richie Hight, Willie Stevens, Nick Panelli and Bridget Nielsen.  They recruited friends and like minded hunters for the group and got the ball rolling.  As the group grew, it became obvious that there was sufficient interest in the area to justify forming an official entity and the Northern Nevada Bird Dog Association was born.  With the help of Craig Burkett and Paul Gardner the group became an official non-profit organization and set up a home on the web to disseminate information.

The club as a whole elected to put on a large bird dog championship the following spring.  Committee members Craig Burkett, Willie Stevens, Bridget Nielsen, Richie Hight, Nick Panelli and Paul Gardner were appointed to develop the infrastructure for the event.  Once the framework for the event had been established, the balance of the members aided in performing all of those tasks that are vital for the successful production of any well executed event.
